Character History

History:

Saul Tigh is the Battlestar Galactica's executive officer in his 40s from the Colony of Geminon. Tigh's marriage has become estranged because of his wife's blatant adultery.

Because of the pain Tigh feels about his marriage, he becomes an alcoholic. He becomes involved in an altercation with Kara Thrace over a card game of Dominion.

The Cylon attack becomes the pivotal change in Tigh's life. Unsure of himself initially, he almost ends up being dismissed by Commander Adama.

As the crisis escalates and the Galactica comes under attack, Tigh begins to grow into his role as Adama's second in command.

He makes a difficult decision, which leads to the deaths of crewmembers in order to save the Galactica from destruction. Every day is a battle for Tigh to end his alcoholism but he does the right thing and puts down the drink.

His acceptance of his responsibilities as Executive Officer gives him the strength to fight the alcoholism.
