Character History

History:

Kara's a loner, probably stemming from a childhood where she felt she wasn't good enough, smart enough or strong enough.  Her mother viewed her as a mistake, and often times crossed the line between emotional abuse and physical abuse.  She ran from that hellhole when she was young, and learned to survive by herself.

She lied about her age and joined the Colonial Fleet, finding a natural gift for combat piloting.  She was so good, that when her real age was revealed, she was kept in instead of being drummed out.

She's a loner, always has been, finding it easier to trust herself than anyone else around her.  She did her job; she loved her job, and was selected to attend Officer Candidate School, where she met one of the three most important men in her life, Lee Adama, a classmate.  They almost had a thing, but he backed off, and upon graduation she was offered a position as a flight instructor, the youngest ever.  Which she took.

That led her to the second of the three men in her life, strangely enough, Lee's younger brother, Zak.  He was a student of hers, wanting so desperately to be a Viper pilot like his brother and his famed father, even though he didn't have the necessary basic skills to be one.  They fell in love, and became engaged.  She passed him in basic flight; unable to destroy the man she loved by failing him, as she should have.  That ended in disaster, for he was killed in the air.

That led to the entrance of William Adama, father of Lee and Zak.  They bonded over Zak's death, and she became almost a bridge between the elder Adama and his last surviving son, who she had remained friends with over the years.  She left her post at the viper academy and took up a position as a viper pilot of Battlestar Galactica, commanded by Commander William Adama.  She made a good life there, William loved her like a daughter, and she looked at him like a father, all the while never telling him exactly why his youngest son had to die.

Then, on the eve of the Galactica's decommissioning ceremony, two events changed her life.  One, she met up again with Lee, who she had not seen since Zak's funeral.  And the Cylons attacked, destroying her whole civilization in one sweeping blow, and sending the survivors fleeing through the galaxy.  She's lost many people she considered friends, and managed to grow closer to the loved ones she has left, even after revealing to her treasured father figure that she was the reason Zak was dead.  That admission nearly broke them both, but they managed to work through it.

Special Notes: Kara is the only human who has ever flown a Raider, having captured and repaired it when stranded on a planet.
