History:
Born on Mar 21, Nathaniel is the youngest of the six children born to Joseph and Rachel. Like his brothers before him, as soon as Nathaniel was able to walk, his father began teaching Nathaniel how to play Hockey, hoping to relive his dream through one of his sons.

Much to Joseph's frustrations, his boys all proved to be athletically gifted, but completely uninterested in having a hockey career. So by the time Nathaniel was old enough to start learning the game, Joseph saw his youngest as his last good chance.

Nathaniel grew up facing more pressure from his father than any of his other brothers and the two often got into huge fights ending with Nathaniel storming off. He just couldn't make his father understand that he didn't have any interest in a career in Hockey.

By the time that he reached high school, Nathaniel was completely rebelling. He began hanging around with the wrong crowd. Started cutting classes and began smoking and drinking. His mother just prayed that he wasn't doing anything else like drugs.

Growing more and more frustrated and angry with his father who only started to put more pressure on Nathaniel to get him under control, Nathaniel tried to run away. And it was Rachel who finally put her foot down. She got between father and son and sent Nathaniel to spend his final year of high school in the States with her sister who had married and moved down there years ago. Hoping that if he could just get away from his father and the pressures Joseph was exerting on him, he might be able to find himself.

Arriving in Boston, Nathaniel was happily greeted by his Aunt Judith and Uncle Ethan. Judith especially was delighted to have Nathaniel with her as her two boys were both away at college and she was suffering from an empty nest.  Nathaniel's Uncle was a respected Doctor in Boston; he even made time in his schedule to talk to medical students in Harvard.

With his Uncle and Aunt, things quickly turned around for Nathan. His grades went back up, he stopped drinking and smoking, and began dating a girl his own age called Kimberly.

Catching Nathaniel looking through one of his medical books one day, Ethan began explaining the medical field to his Nephew and seeing Nathan's interest, he started taking the teenager with him to his lectures at Harvard. He gently encouraged Nathan's interest and allowed him to explore his curiosity. By the time that Nathan was ready to think about college, the teenager had already decided on becoming a doctor.

With his Uncle and Aunt's help, Nathan and Kimberly got into the Harvard medical school where he was in the top ten of his class and she was in the top five. They were only 20, and still in college when the two of them got engaged and married. 3 years would pass before they were expecting their first child. Nathan was in an important exam when Kimberly went into labor a week early. At her request, he wasn't called so that he could continue the exam.

But there were complications during the labor and when the exam was over, it was then that Nathan learned not only that he had a son, but that he'd lost Kimberly. It was an extremely difficult year for him after that. And Nathan believes that the only reason why he was able to pull himself together was because of his son.

During the time he was going through college and during his residency, Nathan had followed the news about the work to colonize Mars. He found the whole idea of colonization to be fascinating and exciting. After he finished his residency and became a doctor, Nathaniel continued to follow the news and when he learned that people were finally needed  people to colonize Mars, he volunteered his services.
