Personal Quirks:
Paces often, suffers frequent bouts of unrecognized but extreme boredom for confinement and lack of mental stimulation, when not suffering supposed insomnia Ciel will suffer 'nightmares' and often only pretends to sleep.  (In actuality the length between required bouts of sleep would have to hit two or three weeks before entering into insomnia and dreaming is equally more intense)

History:
Ciel is the clone of one or more deceased aliens who's unidentifiable remains were discovered by the military when 'something' crashed in the woods near Kecksburg Pennsylvania approximately thirty years ago.  (note - while UFO enthusiasts hail the 'Kecksburg Incident' as a possible alien crash site second only to Roswell, beyond the fact that something fell from the sky into the Kecksburg woods and something was retrieved from the scene by the US military, this bio contains pure fiction, I am taking wild artistic license, not positing theory.)

After five years worth of study and several failed cloning attempts Ciel was finally created from the genetic material recovered.  It holds none of it's predecessor's memories and knows only of a life lived confined and contained.  Examined and experimented on both medically and psychologically by scientists as well as watched and questioned by the military.  Beyond the surprise of the gendershifting they believe to be a norm for aliens now, it so far has proven not to be quite the treasure trove of information they expected.  Though it may be that they only managed to create that very surprise themselves in the cloning attempts of the indecipherable remains.  The accident that caused the gyroscopic sphere to crash may have been so
devestating to those within it to effectively entangle the dna of more than one of the occupants.

Ciel has lived an extremely limited life and all it knows about it's own origins and of it's predecessor is what it has overheard when certain scientist or military have had attitudes so clinical that they have even spoken to each other as though it were not even there.  Though it enjoys when that happens for it gives it something worthwhile to think about, more pieces to a puzzle it truly desires to solve.

It has been gendershifting since the fetal stage.  Then and as it continued to grow after 'birth' the gendershifting was randomly triggered and most seemed a struggle of indecision.  Since the age of cognitive developement though, it has been able to choose the time of the shifting.  Yet it cannot remain permanently one or the other it will feel physical stress to attempt to hold to one even an entire year.

Transferring the study of it to the Mars colony is an attempt to spark the development of something new to learn from it.  The thinking being that if one contains that of extraterrestial origin in an extraterrestrial environment, something new to study may occur.
